A study pathway including food preparation, nutrition, and culinary management.
Students enter the pathway with the introductory level course “Food Prep and Nutrition”. This is an introduction for most of the students into the world of hospitality, restaurants, and the many options there are in this fast-paced industry.
As students advance in the pathway to “Culinary Arts / Management” they experience a more fined tuned look at the industry and start to develop more skills that will assist them in entering the workforce. The students are extremely fortunate to have a professional kitchen on the campus here at SDHS and are able to receive a hands-on learning experience that only a few other schools in the district can provide.
San Diego High School’s Pro Start Program has seen some serious success in the last few years: Scholarships, Internships, Catered Events, First place in State ProStart Cup Competitions, 2nd place in the National ProStart Invitational, and a ProStart Educator of Excellence award, just to highlight a few success stories. The program has seen lives changed as students found the confidence and skills to not only get a job in industry, but be true leaders in industry.
